Drug Development

We have 4,800 sq. ft. of research laboratories available to provide support for product development, including cell culture and bioanalytical assay development, protein characterization, process evaluation and quality control activities.

In addition to expertise in designing and implementing processes to extract, purify and package therapeutic proteins, our researchers have also developed an extensive pipeline of products based on the unique properties of purified hemoglobin. These products include hemoglobin-conjugated therapeutics and hemoglobin-based proteins to treat infectious disease, cancer and anemia.

Therapure Biopharma currently has four therapeutic products in its pipeline

Our Pipeline

Pipeline

TBI 301
Indication: Post-Liver transplant & acute and chronic HCV
(Hepatitis CV)
We have developed a smarter way to target HCV infections with the best available drug. TBI 301 is a conjugate of hemoglobin and ribavirin that selectively targets the liver. The combination is more tolerable and powerful than ribavirin alone and has the potential to more effectively treat this widespread, serious and difficult to treat disease. TBI 301is in position to commence human clinical trials following formal PK/Tox. studies.

TBI 302
Indication: Hepatocellular carcinoma & metastatic colorectal cancer
TBI 302, a conjugate of hemoglobin and floxuridine, delivers this powerful chemotherapy agent directly to the liver, while also targeting liver metastases. TBI 302 is currently undergoing pre-clinical efficacy and safety studies.

TBI 303
Indication: Multiple
TBI 303 is a novel, proprietary protein modification technology designed to improve the performance of existing protein-based therapeutics through an increase in half-life. Screening studies currently underway at Therapure Biopharma are designed to select the lead product for pre-clinical development.

TBI 304
Indication: Chemotherapy-Induced Anemia
Approximately 40% of people suffering from anemia do not respond to the current standard treatment, Erythropoietin. TBI 304 is a monoclonal antibody that mimics the natural ability of hemoglobin to stimulate stem cells to produce red blood cells. TBI 304 is currently in the in vitro proof of concept stage.

Our Drug Development Team

Therapure Biopharma’s drug development team is led by Dr. David Bell, Vice President of Drug Development and Chief Scientific Officer and Dr. Gord Adamson, Director of Drug Development with support from Dr. Chris Talpas, Manager of Process Development & Technical Support.

With more than 20 years of experience developing hemoglobin based therapeutics, we have first hand knowledge working with blood proteins in the lab. We have 8 clinical trials under our belt, and bring true expertise to protein modification and drug targeting.

Therapure Biopharma looks to a future filled with the promise and potential of protein therapeutics as our opportunity to grow and become a major Canadian-based specialized biopharmaceutical company.
